Before you pack that faux fur coat back in storage where it will hibernate until next NYE, think again. Just because a leopard can’t change its spots doesn’t mean you can’t either.

I always associate a faux fur coat – and a leopard printed one at that – with a night out on the town or some other fancy occasion. Leopard print by itself already oozes a type of allure as enticing as the giant cat itself. But unless you’re Kate Moss, us regular gals just don’t need to look that good getting out of our limo. Or boarding our private jet. You get the picture.

January: Leopard Faux Fur & Preppy Stripes

To downplay the luxe quality of this coat and to make it daytime casual friendly, I decided to pair it with a minimalist look: preppy stripes, blazer, blue jeans, and black boots. The neutral color palette makes the seemingly opposite nature of the two prints work together in a balanced harmony. The resulting outfit is a classic look with a wild twist, perfect for a casual Friday at the office or an informal lunch date. Even Kate Moss would approve.

Now If you’ll excuse my leopard coat and I, we’ve got a private jet to catch!

Hey all you youngins, before there was iheartradio or Pandora, there was the actual radio. My early teen years were spent by the radio dial, switching between the all the popular stations. When the DJ played my favorite song, it was time to press play+record. Behold the art of the mix tape.

Nowadays cassette tapes are obsolete, but they continue to live on in my heart and in my closet. I scored this very cool tee shirt a while back from a local artist that features a screen print of her tape collection. I admit I don’t know all the names of the artists and album names scribbled on some of the cassettes, so I guess I’m a bit of a youngin myself.

The tee shirt deserved some edgy elements, so I found an excuse to wear my seatbelt belt; it is quite the conversation starter for obvious reasons. I juxtaposed the casual tee shirt with a dainty lace inset vintage cardigan and a pair of cutout heels to match.

Life is like a cassette player: if you fast forward you’ll miss the scenery, but don’t rewind and dwell on the past. Remember to pause, stop, and just press play. You better check yo self before you eject yo self.

Papa Don’t Preach

But I made up my mind, I’m writing this post about you.

When I look at my father’s 60-year-old frame today, it’s hard to believe that he was once an energetic young dad dealing with four kids. Looking back at old photos of him, I’d say he was a pretty stylish guy.

He wasn’t around much when my siblings and I were younger because he worked hard to make sure he could provide for us and feed our hungry tummies. This was one of his biggest regrets, he later told me, that he missed out on so much of our childhood. To make up for lost time, he would lecture us on various facets of life, lectures I always dreaded. Only in recent years have I started to understand the meaning of his lectures. Whether it is advice on finding the right man or finding a career I’m passionate about – he has two cents to say about everything. I’ve realized that my dad is a very smart man. He has bestowed on me many words of wisdom, of which I realize the truths to his words much later.

Dad, thank you for always challenging me and providing the inspiration for this outfit! Like father, like daughter.
